About this place
Walk up the stairs and step inside to an unusual cafe touch: guests slip off their shoes and switch into slippers, greeted by floor-to-ceiling potted houseplants. Felt as though stepped away from the surrounding streets, the light-filled space offers spaced-out seating that feels welcoming and calm even for solo visitors.
The most memorable opening note of lunch at Honcho Cafe is the accompanying set salad. Far from a token garnish, it arrives in a generous bowl packed with lettuce, broccoli, tuna, and sweetcorn, dressed in a refreshing vinaigrette that keeps every forkful light.
The mains strike an easy balance between classic kissaten comfort and real satisfaction. The seafood dry curry comes tossed with scallops, prawns, squid, green peppers, and egg, seasoned with a zesty pinch of salt and black pepper to wake up the palate. Pasta choices are equally diverse, spanning seafood peperoncino, carbonara, and a rich, minced-meat Bolognese scented with fried garlic. Other Western-style cafe staples include crisp, oven-toasted pizza bread and a plate of Kamakura ham steak with grilled sausage served alongside rice.
Set drink options cover standard brewed coffee, Darjeeling and Earl Grey teas, caffe latte, and fruit juices, making for an unhurried post-meal pause. As the cafe opens only during lunchtime from Wednesday through Saturday, between 11:00 and 15:00, planning ahead around these midday hours is recommended.
